A Difficult Decision

20th October, 2004

Dear Sandy,

How are you? Thank you so much for your invitation. However, I can't make it to the party.

Ever since you two started going out, Pat has become more cheerful and mature. He keeps telling me how he enjoys spending all his time with you. Because he doesn't want his parents to disapprove his relationship with you, he has become very industrious. His academic performance is improving. Can't you see how important you are to him? I believe that Pat is insanely in love with you, and I know you feel just the same for him. You were so worried when Pat twisted his ankle in a football game last month. You two are like "Romeo and Juliet" of our school, only without the tragic ending.

I have to admit that I have also fallen in love with you. Well, how can I not? Remember the afternoon several weeks ago, when I was sitting alone in the cafeteria, you came over me and gave me a bar of chocolate? That little bar of chocolate cheered a frustrated boy up from his sorrow over the death of his grandma. However, this attraction does not, cannot and will never overcome my friendship with Pat. He is my best friend, and he is the nicest guy I know. Whenever I have problems, I would go to him. Pat is a very trustworthy person and a patient listener as well. He takes relationships seriously. He would never speak to me again if he finds out our betrayal. This is not what I ever wanted to see. I cannot bear losing a friend like him.

I will treasure you as my friend. You're lovely, gorgeous and intelligent. I hope Pat and you can go to that party and have some fun. I am asking a girl in my class out this Saturday night. She is a very sincere girl. I enjoy every moment with her. I hope it goes the same between Pat and you. You two make a very matching couple.

          See you around.

Best wishes,

Chris
